A promotional event… you don’t want to miss!
JOIN US AT 6PACK BEACH FOR INDOOR BEACH VOLLEYBALL!!!
***Dates and registration at the bottom of the page***
Join us for a volleyball tournament and get to know netscore… and how you can help us launch this great product!!!
These tournaments are for Intermediate (B) players or better.
Teams will be four players with a minimum of one girl, or five players with a sub and a minimum of two girls (each team can decide their preference).
After a time limited seeding round, we will play two tiers (top 6 teams, bottom 6 teams - based on full registration). There will be plenty of volleyball for everyone!
There will be two first place prizes, one per tier.
Cost is $150 per team. You will only be added to a tournament once payment has been received.
You can also sign up as a single player and you will be placed on a team. Cost is $37.50.
These tournaments will run bi-weekly for the foreseeable future (dates and registration at the bottom of the page). A big thank you to 6Pack Beach for sponsoring our NetScore project!
During the seeding round, 10 teams will be playing and two resting. There will be a brief presentation on NetScore for the resting teams, including the opportunity to purchase our limited edition ‘Ambassador Series’ product, and an invitation to consider joining Team NetScore!
Each team will have a designated team captain, who has to make sure all team members know the rules (see below).
By registering for the tournament, players agree to receive promotional emails about the NetScore project.
Finally, these tournaments are being promoted far and wide throughout Metro Vancouver… so sign up while you can!!!
The Rules
-
Players can have set positions, there is no need to ‘switch’ on the fly.
Some positions can be set (such as setter) while other rotate. It’s up to each team to determine their strategy.
The sub must sub on each time the serve is obtained from the other team.
All five players must take turns serving in a set and sequential order.
Positions and serving order can reset from game to game.
Girls sub on and off the same as the guys.
-
You have to make sure the other team is ready and call “Service!” before you serve.
You have to serve from behind the back line and between the sidelines.
You may jump from behind the back line onto the court but must strike the ball before landing on the court.
The ball may touch the net and even roll over the net on a serve.
For the seeding round, first serve is determined by spinning the ball. For the tournament, the lower ranked team gets first serve, then it alternates.
-
You cannot block a serve.
You cannot spike a serve from anywhere on the court.
You cannot set a serve back over the net. You may set a serve to a team mate.
You may ‘fumble’ a serve (i.e. the first touch on a serve received does not have to be clean, double touches are OK).
-
Besides receiving a serve, passes have to be clean. Double touches are not allowed.
The ball must be ‘bumped’ and not scooped / carried.
-
Sets have to be clean touches.
You can not scoop / carry the ball.
If setting over the net, you must be square to the direction of your set with your feet, hips, shoulders and arms all pointing in the direction of your set. You can do so forwards or backwards but not to the side.
Side sets are not allowed!A one handed set to a teammate is permitted, but a one handed set over the net is a tip and is not permitted.
-
There must be a swing of the arm and the ball must be ‘smacked’. Simply reaching towards the ball and directing it via the wrist is considered a tip, even if there’s a hit like approach involved.
You cannot reach over the net and hit the ball once it has completely past over the net.
-
When playing near the net, you may not direct or re-direct the ball over the net with an open hand.
You must either punch, knuckle or swing through the ball.
One handed sets over the net are considered a tip and are not allowed.
-
You may block the ball when the other team is playing it over the net. You cannot reach over the net and interfere with a pass / set between two opposing teams’ players.
A block does not count as a touch. After a block, if the ball comes to your side, your team has three touches available to it, and as the blocker you can take the first touch.
Anybody can block anybody, including guys blocking girls (some of our girls are better than some of our guys!)
-
You cannot touch the net… ever!
You cannot go under the net, unless you are on the outside of the antennae.
If the ball hits the net hard from the other side and pushes the net into you, that is not considered touching the net.
Touching NetScore is considered touching the net… it is considered a privilege and an honour…
-
If the ball touches a boundary line, even ever so slightly… it in in!
If, after the first or second touch, the ball is beyond the boundaries of your court, you may play it from anywhere, including the concrete area.
If a spectator is in the way and you reasonably could have played the ball, it’s a re-serve.
Trees are out of bounds. If the ball is played into the trees, it is out. It is not a re-serve. Whoever plays the ball into the tress, the other team is awarded a point.
Antennae - The ball must travel over the net between the antennae without touching them. If the ball travels over the net outside or above an antenna or touches the antenna, it is out.
If, after a first touch, the ball travels over the net, and is going out, you may duck under the net, without stepping on the opponents’ court, and play the ball back to your side, outside the antenna, back to a teammate who then has to play it back over the net between the antennae as per usual.
If the ball enters a neighbouring court while there is a game in play, it is automatically out. Do not run into another game chasing a ball!
-
If there is a disputed play, it is re-served.
If one team feels strongly that a re-serve is not warranted, an ‘official’ may be called upon for a review. The official’s decision is final and binding.
-
Honesty, courtesy and FairPlay go a long way in making a tournament fun. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you and we will all enjoy a great tournament! (Especially the team that comes in FIRST!!!)
